Brooklyn, New York
Now over a century old and famous for its diverse collection of native and exotic plants, Brooklyn Botanic Garden is currently undergoing its most significant renewal effort since its founding.
eDesign Dynamics is privileged to be a part of that process, helping to design a state-of-the-art stormwater capture and reuse system, a restored stream corridor, and new water garden. Working under the leadership of Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, eDesign Dynamics provided water quantity and quality modeling services for components critical to potable water savings and combined sewer overflow (CSO) abatement technologies. The team design incorporated rainwater capture and recirculation for the operation of the stream and bio-filtration units to ensure the maintenance of water quality within the garden's two water bodies. With construction entering its second phase in the fall of 2015, once complete the garden will reduce water consumption by approximately 21 million gallons per year, and prevent 19 million gallons of water per year from entering the City's combined sewer system; 5.5 million of which would have occurred during wet weather, contributing to CSOs. eDesign Dynamics also aided in the design of the restored stream corridor, ensuring the minimization erosion risk and losses to groundwater infiltration.
