Manhattan
EDD serves on an interdisciplinary design team led by James Corner Field Operations (JCFO) tasked with the redesign of Gansevoort Peninsula on the west side of Manhattan in the Hudson River.
Being the only non-pile-supported parcel in all of Hudson River Park, Gansevoort Peninsula holds great potential to bring back vital habitat along the Hudson water’s edge. EDD worked closely with JCFO and project partners to maximize habitat creation in the park, including the design of a salt marsh, tidal pools, and unique submerged habitat features such as oyster gabions and reef balls. When completed, the salt marsh designed for Gansevoort Peninsula’s northern edge will be the first restored salt marsh on Manhattan’s West Side. EDD’s designs enforce the project goals of creating an exciting and inviting community space to promote engagement with its riparian ecology, providing educational and stewardship opportunities and establishing ecological features which bolster the resiliency of the site.CLIENTS AND PARTNERS
