Queens, New York
eDesign Dynamics served as hydrogeological field engineers for the subsurface investigation to determine the appropriateness of locations for right of way bioswales in the Newtown Creek tributary area of Queens, New York.
The bioswales are designed to retain runoff from the street through infiltration. A subsurface investigation is critical in assessing the suitability of a location for its capacity to infiltrate runoff. The overall goal is to reduce combined sewer overflows by reducing the amount of stormwater reaching New York City’s combined sewer system.
Our field engineers performed standard penetration tests with split-barrel sampling, field classification of soil groups based on color, moisture, consistency, and density, and falling head permeability tests utilizing New York City Department of Environmental Protection Office of Green Infrastructure standard procedures. Throughout the entirety of the contract, our engineers investigated approximately 200 locations.
