Bronx, NY
EDD served as engineering, ecosystem restoration, and green infrastructure design consultants for the development and incorporation of native ecosystems and stormwater quality improvements in the rehabilitation of the bulkhead at Roberto Clemente State Park, Bronx, New York.
The bulkhead design highlights storm and climate change resilience and provides multiple displays of interpretive signage for public education. EDD evaluated target species, interactions with adjacent habitats, expected changes in extreme weather events, as well as maintenance concerns for proposed alternatives. The final design included four distinct habitat types: salt marsh, coastal scrub shrub, freshwater wetland (for stormwater treatment), and tidal pools. These highly demonstrative habitat zones provide park visitors with a chance to view interacting ecosystems supporting an array of plants and animal species. EDD performed a tidal investigation utilizing pressure transducers and data logger to determine salt marsh planting elevations and delivered engineering drawings and planting plans for the freshwater wetland, tidal pools, and stormwater infrastructure for inclusion in the final bid package.
